본연구는 디지털 기술의 확산과 이미지 소비의 가속화 속에서 시각예술 개념의 변화를 고찰하고, 권두현 작가가 제안한 신사진예술 개념 ‘Ambiphoto’를중심으로 감성지각 기반 시각언어의 확장 가능성을 분석한다. ‘Ambiphoto’는 ‘ambi-(양면성)’와 ‘photo(빛)’의합성 어로, 사진적 기술과 회화적 사유, 감정⋅기억⋅지각이 융합된 예술 형식으로, 감정과 의식 을시각적으로 번역하는 심미적 실천으로 이해된다. 김지은은 이를 “감성적 파동과 시지각의 흔들림을 통해 공감적 상호작용을 유도하는 시각언어”로정의하며, 본연구는 이를 감성지각의 시각언어화로 개념화한다. 이를 위해 메를 로퐁티의 지각현상학, 이미지 기억이론(바르트⋅벤야민), 감정인지이론(LeDoux⋅Zajonc), 이중코딩이론(Paivio), 뉴로심미학 및거울뉴런 이론(Gallese)과연계하여 Ambiphoto의이 론적 기반을 분석하였다. 그결과, Ambiphoto는감정과 기억의 다층적 활성화를 유도하는 ‘감정지향적 열린 이미지’ 로기능하며, 감성공학, 이미지 기호학, 시각적 은유 이론을 통해 감성의 이중성이 시각 요소로 전환되는 과정을 드러낸다. 본연구는 이러한 분석을 바탕으로 감정 중심의 예술-기술 융합 환경에서 인터페이스 디자인, 디지털 이미지 기반 예술치유, 시각예술 교육, 인공지능 창작 시스템 등다양한 응용 가능성을 제안한다.

This study examines the transformation of contemporary visual art in the context of accelerating digital technologies and image consumption, focusing on the aesthetic practice of Korean artist Duhyun Kwon and his conceptual framework of Ambiphoto. The term Ambiphoto, a neologism combining “ambi-” (duality) and “photo” (light), signifies an integrative visual language that transcends the traditional boundaries between photography and painting by incorporating emotional perception, memory, and cognitive resonance into a singular artistic modality. Kim Ji-eun defines Ambiphoto as “a visual language that elicits empathetic interaction through affective vibration and perceptual ambiguity.” Building on this perspective, the study conceptualizes Ambiphoto as a visual-linguistic system grounded in affective perception, rather than mere representational fidelity. Drawing upon Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of perception, memory theories (Barthes, Benjamin), affect-cognition interaction models (LeDoux, Zajonc), Paivio’s dual coding theory, and neuroaesthetic frameworks such as Gallese’s mirror neuron theory, this research establishes the theoretical foundation for Ambiphoto’s affect-driven visual communication. The findings reveal that Ambiphoto functions as an “emotion-oriented open image” that activates multilayered processes of memory, emotion, and imagination. Through affective semiotics, visual metaphor theory, and emotional design principles, the study explicates how aesthetic ambiguity and emotional duality are encoded into visual structures. Ultimately, this research proposes the potential of Ambiphoto to inform interdisciplinary applications across emotional interface design, digital art therapy, visual arts education, and AI-based creative systems, establishing it as a prototype for emotion-centered art-technology convergence in the digital era.
